
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 1999) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans over 40 years. London was a torch-singer who was known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. Her debut album "Cry me a river", which she recorded was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's long and successful acting career started in 1944 , with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female character in several westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the start of her professional music career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in 1969. Her success continued as the female lead of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was co-starring alongside Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
