Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of an athletic scholarship to his parents and commitment in the local community. The first family is his youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. The family lived on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. A year later, in 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the nation's top lineman. Oklahoma had two National Championships throughout his three-year tenure as the lineman. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship and was recognized as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work during college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. He also began a career in the field of business. In 1988 he took on the role of account liaison officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no doubt that he was named one of the most distinguished young men in the country from the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265lbs when playing in the college football league. As of 1975, Lee Roy was a leader of the team. In 1993, he was a part of his current position at University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. In 1988 the year he was a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
